The program is offered in public middle and high schools as a voluntary after-school program. Participants will meet once a week to engage in activities and discussions on personal, familial, cultural, or general issues. The program consists of a curriculum focused on education, health, and leadership.
Hmong Men Circle is rooted on the philosophy of "Like a Bamboo". During the early stages, the bamboo grass develops a strong foundation through it's roots. After a year, there is growth in form of inches. After a few years, the bamboo shoots to hundreds of feet.
Participants will acquire a sense of self-concept, learn to be proactive, affirm strengths and values, learn time-management and goal setting, gain healthier self-esteem, and become leaders. They will learn how to balance the pressures of living in a bi-cultural world, how to deal with gender issues, the Hmong history, understand and appreciate Hmong Culture and Traditions, and appreciate diversity.
