HWC is offered in public middle and high schools as a voluntary after-school program. Participants from each school meet weekly to engage in activities and discussions that help them develop personal and life skills, understand and appreciate the Hmong culture and history, and deal with challenges in their lives.
Participants will learn how to balance the pressures of living in a bi-cultural world, how to deal with generation gap, learn about Hmong history, discover the role of women in Hmong history, explore the challenges of being Hmong American, understand & appreciate Hmong culture and traditions, and appreciate diversity.
Participants will share experiences and be listened to, build a support system of sisterhood, make new friends, learn about issues and challenges that confront Hmong girls (sex, college, parental support, peer pressure, drugs, grades, etc).
