Hmong Family Resource Center (HFRC)

The primary purposes of the HFRC are to: 1. Remove cultural and language barriers to Hmong individuals and families accessing the full range of social and mental health services available to other populations in Sacramento and Yolo Counties;
2. Assist Hmong individuals and families in meeting their basic needs, supporting them in achieving healthy lifestyles,and empowering them to utilize their internal resources in overcoming personal, cultural, and social barriers.
Hmong Women's Circle (HWC)
HWC is a program that addresses the needs, concerns, and talents of Hmong female 
adolescents. The program is committed to nurturing the participants' social, and 
self-respect through affirmation of strengths, skills, and ambitions, supporting each
 participant in making well-informed decisions regarding herbody, education, and 
future, promoting understanding and appreciation of Hmong cultural heritage, and 
advancement of the Hmong-American community.


Brief History : The HWC after-school Program was founded by Kashia Tasli Moua, a 
recent graduate of Carleton College . Funded by the Echoing Green Foundation in 1999, 
it has been successfully implemented in five St. Paul , Minnesota middle and high schools. 
In 2001, Hmong Women's Circle is being replicated in Sacramento , California and 
Wausau, Wisconsin through the sponsorship of the Hmong National Development, Inc. 
How does Hmong Women's Circle work? 
HWC is offered in public middle and high schools as a voluntary after-school program. 
Participants from each school meet weekly to engage in activities and discussions that 
help them develop personal and life skills, understand and appreciate the Hmong culture 
& history, and deal with challenges in their lives. 

Cultural Understanding and Appreciation 
Participants will: 
•  learn how to balance the pressures of living in a bi-cultural world 
•  learn how to deal with generation gap. 
•  learn about Hmong history. 
•  discover the role of women in Hmong history. 
•  understand & appreciate Hmong culture and traditions. 
•  explore the challenges of being Hmong American. 
•  appreciate diversity. 
Support and Awareness 
Participants will: 
•  share experiences and be listened to. 
•  build a support system of sisterhood. 
•  make new friends. 
•  learn about issues and challenges that confront Hmong girls (sex, college, parental 
   support, peer pressure, drugs, grades, etc). 

Hmong Men Circle (HMC)
Hmong Men Circle is a program that addresses the needs, concerns, and talents of 
Hmong male adolescents. The program is committed to nurturing the participants' 
social, familial, emotional, and academic welfare through the affirmation of strengths, 
skills, and ambitions. Moreover, the program provides opportunities for civic participation 
and advancement as Hmong-Americans.
                         
Asian American Network for Cancer Research and Training (AANCART)
Our goal for Sacramento AANCART is to deliver cancer education and outreach to 
the Hmong community. Outreach will help Hmong community members learn more 
about: (1) cancer awareness, prevention and causes (2) use scientifically valid 
approaches to reduce cancer risk and (3) seek care for cancer prevention when medically 
appropriate.
